These creepy Brain Cupcakes will help you let out your inner zombie. These cupcakes have a "brain" pattern on the inside and "zombie flesh" frosting on top. They are perfect for Halloween or any other scary party. Adding "blood" is optional and takes them to a whole new level of gross fun.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup whole milk

  • Red food coloring

  • For the frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 2-3 tbsp milk

  • Green food coloring

  • Red food coloring

  • Optional: Raspberry jam or strawberry sauce for 'bloody' filling

Instructions:

Warm up your oven to 350F 175C and put cupcake liners in a muffin tin

Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl with a whisk

Melt the butter and mix it with the sugar in another bowl until it is light and fluffy

One at a time, add the eggs and mix well after each one

Add the vanilla extract and mix well

Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ones, mixing them in with the milk every so often

Start with the dry ingredients and end with the milk

Don't mix any further than that

Separate the cupcake batter into two equal parts

Add red food coloring to one part until it looks like "brain" color

Put layers of plain and red batter into the cupcake liners using a spoon or a piping bag to make a "brain" shape

In a hot oven, bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick stuck in the middle comes out clean

On a wire rack, let the cupcakes cool all the way down

To make the frosting, soften the butter and beat it until it's smooth

Then, add the powdered sugar and milk slowly until you get the consistency you want

To make the frosting look like "zombie flesh," add a little green and red food coloring

After the cupcakes are cool, pipe brain-shaped frosting on them

As an extra scary touch, you can fill the frosting with raspberry jam or strawberry sauce to make it look like blood

Feel free to share and enjoy your gross Brain Cupcakes!
